| Perioperative Management |
| Perioperative
Services is a healthcare organization’s prime
revenue generator, contributing as much as 60% of
a hospital’s revenue. This percentage can
be impacted by how effectively the organization
generates and optimizes revenue. Delayed billing,
human error, outdated billing rules, poor workflows,
inaccurate or obsolete data and late charges are
all contributors to decreased revenue and missed
opportunities.
Inefficient processes in the pre-op, OR and post-op
areas can lead to lost revenue as well as impacting
the level of patient and physician satisfaction.
Quality of patient care needs to be carefully
monitored, and compliance with Federal, state
and agency regulations adhered to. Decisions must
be made quickly and accurately.
While the primary focus of all healthcare facilities
is patient care, the enablers are revenue enhancement
and cost containment. One of the primary ways
to recognize these is through process improvement
initiatives.
The ISH team of Perioperative Management professionals
works with healthcare executives to build and
organization that will focus on driving the excess
costs out of Perioperative Services, thus freeing
up those dollars for the improvement of patient
care. Utilizing best of breed software, process
improvement strategies and our proprietary Value-Add
programs, your organization can realize true return
on your IT investment.
We have hands on implementation experience with
the leading software vendors such as Cerner,
EPIC, GE, McKesson,
Meditech, Per-Se (now McKesson)
, Picis and SIS.
Our clients have made
us a trusted advisor because we have strong operational
change management experience to complement our
detailed implementation experience with each of
these vendors. Many organizations have utilized
our insight to assist them in their selection
process because we understand the capabilities
of the software, the service programs they are
presenting, and the cost your organization should
be paying for them. Most importantly, it doesn’t
matter to us which vendor our clients select.
We have experience implementing them all, and
are invested in helping you select the right applications
for your organization. The real question we begin
with is not what the vendors can do, but what
clients wish to accomplish. Specifically, does
your organization wish to have a technical replacement,
or an enterprise-wide Perioperative Services Improvement
Program. The difference is that technical projects
are measured by “going live”, whereas
improvement programs are measured by specific
financial and operational improvement metrics.

Perioperative Revenue Analysis |
Our Perioperative
Revenue Analysis Program is the information gathering
and decision making step towards decreasing lost
charges, increasing the charges for performed cases,
and decreasing AR days. The first step in this process
is to decide whether the opportunity truly exists
to improve these areas. Our two week program analyzes
performance in the areas of:
- Lost Charges – 5% of lost supply charges
is acceptable unless the lost charges are for
high cost implants,
- Procedure to Charge Time – 99% of charges
has to be reviewed, collected and billed between
48 – 72 hours,
- Accuracy of Charge Description Master for
Supplies – We have experienced a 15 –
50% charge increase for supplies by cleansing
the CDM and aligning current price with supply
cost,
- Time Charges – Movement to an acuity
based time charge can increase room time charges
in excess of 20%,
- AR Days - Increasing the accuracy and cleanliness
of data, we can decrease AR Days to the 30 –
45 day range.
We will provide the information in cost / benefit
format that includes the action steps and tools
required to realize the benefits. This information
will be used to facilitate an informed decision
on the whether to proceed to the realization phase. |
